Can I merge to IPhone Apple ID's?

I recently bought an I Phone.

I had one a few years ago and could not remember my username and password while at Verizon and their internet was down.

The Verizon sales person just set me up with a new one, so now I can not back up my current phone to my old ID so the contacts, etc do not update, I want one account.
